The Importance of Small Town Community
One of the things I love most about the Shenandoah Valley is how deeply rooted community still feels here.
You see it this time of year in small towns like New Market, Mount Jackson, and beyond… with flags lining the streets for Memorial Day, local ceremonies taking place, and businesses and organizations finding meaningful ways to give back and honor those who served.
There’s something powerful about slowing down enough to notice those details.
To walk through town, reflect on the sacrifices made, and appreciate the communities that continue to show up for one another year after year.
Supporting Local This Weekend
Memorial Day weekend is also a chance to intentionally support the businesses that help keep our small towns alive.
Places like Southern Kitchen in New Market, which has long supported veterans and our local community, are a reminder that local businesses often give back in ways that go far beyond what most people see day to day.
Supporting local doesn’t always have to look big.
Sometimes it’s grabbing breakfast from a local diner, shopping small, attending a community event, or simply choosing to spend your weekend investing back into the places and people around you.
Final Thought
This Memorial Day weekend, I hope we all take a little extra time to reflect on the sacrifices that made our freedoms possible.
